Translating Astronomical Art from Physical to Digital Realm

Rohini Devasher and Legion Seven, artists exploring observation and perception through astronomy, expanded their live performance project The Observatory into a digital platform called The Observatory: Second Site.

They needed to design and develop a website that conveyed the project's themes and integrated works from three collaborating artists: Day Eve Komet, Sona Shahani Shukla, and Norwin Tharayil.

Collaborating with me on design and programming, they created an immersive digital experience. Rohini Devasher illustrated the Planisphere and Orrery, with design inputs from Sijya Gupta. The website incorporated reflections from the Night Sky Observation participants, enhancing the interactive environment.

The website effectively translated the project's themes into a dynamic digital format, showcasing collaborative works and allowing users to explore the impact of perception on observation. Supported by Swiss Arts Council Pro Helvetia and Khoj, the site received positive feedback for its innovative design.
